Doing A Heart Check
If you are a Christian, today I challenge you to CHECK YOUR HEART.
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit? The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
Judging others has become a societal norm. We are called to be among the world but not of the world. Why is it that as "Christians" so many find it acceptable to not only judge others but to so freely speak negatively of others? Why is it somehow acceptable that "Christians" are free to stand on a pedestal and point fingers at the perceived wrongs/injustices that others do?
If you find yourself continually judging the actions/choices/words of others and condemning them in order to build yourself up or gossiping about them, I suggest you ask God to CHECK YOUR HEART...ask Him to reveal to you why this person's actions offend you so much. Maybe your own lack of action in that particular area is weighing heavier than you realize.
Ask Him to reveal why you are so judgmental. Maybe you are struggling with your own inadequacies. Ask Him to cleanse your heart and to fill you with His love. Ask Him to remove the plank so that you can help others remove their speck... Maybe they don't even have a speck in their eye but what you are seeing is a reflection of your own plank...just some deep thoughts on my heart this morning.
To get a little more specific for those who dare to actually read further.... As a newer Christian, it is extremely discouraging when others, especially leaders in the church make snarky comments about others. If you do this... CHECK YOUR HEART!
If you notice that a family is struggling to care for their kids, whether that is food, clothes, shelter, rides, or whatever other need they may have and you are compelled to talk smack about their parenting instead of praying for them and offering to help them...CHECK YOUR HEART!
Finally, and most importantly...as a self proclaimed sinner who has repented for my b.c. choices and continues to seek forgiveness on a daily basis I beg you to stop shaming people for their choices. I am one of countless Christian women who previously chose to terminate pregnancy. I have two angel babies waiting in heaven for me.
I recently read this... "They were not destined for earth at this time but served their purpose to implant something inside of you that remains with you for an eternity. Release yourself from the guilt because they are with God and you received the message He was sending at the time." (Thank you Beverly Brown for this!!!)
I have reconciled with God and live with the effects of my choice on a daily basis, I don't need someone presenting themselves as holier than thou pointing a finger and calling me "wicked" or heartless or a plethora of other demeaning terms. If you feel it is your place to put people down for their choice of sins....remember that all sin is equal, your sin is no worse or less than mine...CHECK YOUR HEART!
I challenge you to CHECK YOUR HEART and love everyone. We are all sinners who fall short daily. #checkyourheart #lovewins
