Children of God are Righteous
Read 1 John 3:4-10
This section is focused on righteousness. Righteousness means to be in right relationship with when you go back to its Greek origin. To be living in righteousness means to be in right relationship with God. This section tells us how we, as children of God, can be in right relationship with God. We are to avoid living in sin for it is lawlessness. Jesus is without sin and came to be the sacrifice for our sins so that we can be made righteous. Sin and worship cannot coexist. Sin and righteousness cannot coexist. When we come to Christ, we are transformed. We have been made into a new creation. The old has gone and the new has come. If we are still living in the way of the world, we do not truly know God. We do not have a personal relationship with Christ. That personal relationship is what transforms our hearts. We act out of that relationship. We desire to love God and be obedient to him because we know him. If we are actively living a life of sin, how can we say we truly know God. “No one born of God makes a practice of sinning.” By our fruits and our action, we display that we are different than the rest of the world. Our actions demonstrate that we are children of God and not children of the devil. Live in righteousness today. Practice spiritual disciplines such as Scripture reading and prayer in order to develop your relationship with God. There is no such thing as a lukewarm Christian. You are either moving closer to God or separating yourself from him.
